British-Chinese DJ/producer Olivia Dawn may be Hong Kong's most exciting new musical export to date. Notorious for delivering energetic DJ and live sets with smooth violin improv and husky raw vocals over a seamless mix of deep, grooving melodic techno and funky house, Olivia has written, recorded and produced with artists from both disco and techno realms, while her own sound features beautiful melodies, simple string arrangements and deep, minimal drops. Her signature DJ style fuses the simplicity of techno with the uplifting melodies of progressive house over a bed of sexy bass lines, sprinkled with a subtle air of cinematic dream. She is also a part of DJ duo Until Dawn which made its debut at Tomorrowland 2017 and Cafe D’Anvers in Antwerp, and will be returning to Tomorrowland on the LEAF stage for weekend 2 this year. Recently, Olivia herself has headlined at the Grand Opening night of Cafe Del Mar in Phuket as well as Escape Bangkok, W Bangkok and W Bali where she opened for Belgian disco producer Aeroplane.
Olivia began playing piano and violin at the age of 5 and started songwriting in high school. A Juilliard bachelor and Berklee double-master graduate in classical violin, contemporary performance and music technology respectively, she has lived away from home since 14 in NYC and Valencia, Spain. During her time at Berklee's Valencia Campus, she accidentally discovered a way to merge her classical training with her love for songwriting and electronic music in a way that allowed her to take a performance far beyond any normal DJ set. With tasteful track selection, flawless mixing and spectacular showmanship, she has had the opportunity to open or close for DJs such as Yokoo, Rampue, Jeremy Olander, Agents of Time, Aeroplane and Dave Seaman, as well as international stars Paul Oakenfold, Jonas Blue and Bebe Rexha. Olivia has played shows for brands including Daybreaker, Nike, Guerlain, Huawei, Roger Vivier, W, Armani, Swire, Max Mara, Porsche, Tudor, Shanghai Tang and was featured at a Virgin Australia event by Sir Richard Branson.
Olivia’s mastery of styles ranges from classical and jazz to world and cinematic. Highly demanded for her versatility on violin and voice, She has recorded vocals for French producer TIME and strings for Mako, Eagles & Butterflies, Tobias Enhus, Yarub Smarait, Casey Driessen, Nacho Marco, Zebbler Encanti Experience, Lost Tapes and Latin Grammy award-winning producer Javier Limón. A passionate Abletoneer and synth lover, Olivia processes and records her own tracks in a small home studio packed with Roland, Moog and Dave Smith Instruments analog gear. She is currently working on her debut EP “Lions”. She will also record an EP with TIME following their successful release of "BIRD" through Kitsune Records. She has previously released a nu disco remix for AGA through Universal HK as well as a deep house/techno EP with Ian Cahill through Digital Den Records.
Whether onstage or at the decks, Olivia carries herself with charisma and charm. Aside from performing and recording and producing, she is an avid runner with Nike, occasional guest lecturer at Berklee College of Music and active supporter of eco-sustainability, animal rights and human rights. Recently she hosted a bilingual live webcast following the International Music Competition Harbin on behalf of Medici TV, the largest classical music channel in the world. With a warm, infectious energy, Olivia has the uncanny ability to make people move, no matter how big or small the venue. She plays on an NS Design electric violin, generously sponsored by Tom Lee Hong Kong.
