OLIVIA DAWN

o l i v i a  d a w n

Hailed by Prestige Magazine as the “rising star violinist” from Hong Kong, British-born and New York/Spanish-raised Chinese artist Olivia Dawn is already making her mark in the industry with her unique talent at the age of 25.  She is known for delivering smooth, modern electric violin improvisations and powerful husky vocals over her own DJ and live electronic sets.  A skilled multi-instrumentalist, she has written, recorded and produced original music for major artists from both the pop and underground realm.  Her signature sound is heavily influenced by electronica, deep house, dream pop and cinema.  She is also a part of progressive tech house/techno duo Until Dawn which has recently made its debut on the stages of Tomorrowland 2017 and Cafe D’Anvers in Belgium to raving reviews.

A Juilliard bachelor and Berklee double-master graduate in classical violin (under Lewis Kaplan), contemporary performance and music technology respectively, Olivia creates synergy between two opposing worlds.  Within one year after moving back to her hometown, Olivia had already opened and closed for underground DJs such as Yokoo (All Day I Dream), Rampue (Dantze), Jeremy Olander (Vivrant/Spinnin’ Deep) and Agents of Time (Stem Records) as well as international superstars Jonas Blue (UK), Rain (SK) and Bebe Rexha (US).  This year she has headlined at high-profile events by major brands including Daybreaker, Volar, Zuma, Nike, Paul & Shark, W, Armani, Landmark, Pacific Place, Max Mara, M.A.C., HKFDA, Tudor, Shanghai Tang and was featured at a Virgin Australia event hosted by Sir Richard Branson.

Olivia’s mastery of musical styles ranges from classical, jazz and rock to world and electronic.  Highly demanded for her technical versatility on the violin and sultry voice, She has recorded vocals for French producer TIME (supported by Solomun) and strings for Mako (Ultra/Interscope), Eagles & Butterflies (Innvervisions), Tobias Enhus (LA composer), Yarub Smarait (arabic violinist), Casey Driessen (Bela Fleck & the Flecktones), Nacho Marco (Ibiza), Zebbler Encanti Experience, Lost Tapes (ES) and Latin Grammy award-winning producer Javier Limón.

An avid Ableton user, Olivia processes her own recordings at home.  She is currently working on her debut album which will include the highly anticipated title track “Lions”, created in collaboration with Eagles & Butterflies.  She will also record an EP with TIME through Universal Paris, after having released a deep house EP last year with former Berklee classmate Ian Cahill, entitled “Everything Will Change”.  She has written and produced original songs for Spanish popstar Julio Rizzi, Taiwanese singer Elva Hsiao and AGA (Universal Hong Kong).

Passionate in the studio and no stranger to the spotlight, Olivia commands the stage with mystic charm, surprising people with fluid dance movements and a fluency in five languages.  Aside from performing and recording, she is frequently invited to give TEDx talks and performance lectures at top conservatories and serves as a Global Shaper for the World Economic Forum.  Recently she hosted a bilingual live webcast following the International Music Competition Harbin on behalf of Medici TV, the largest classical music channel in the world.  With a warm, infectious energy that melts even the hardest of hearts, Olivia takes audiences on an exhilarating journey through her music.  Currently a Nike and Shanghai Tang ambassador, she plays on an NS Design electric violin, generously sponsored by Tom Lee Hong Kong.
