Hailed by Prestige Magazine as a “rising star violinist” from Hong Kong, Olivia Dawn is already making her mark in the industry with her unique talent at the tender age of 25. She is known for delivering fluid, modern violin improvisations and powerful husky vocals over her own DJ sets. A talented multi-instrumentalist, she has written, recorded and produced original music for major artists from both the pop and underground realm. Her signature sound as a solo act is a mixture of soulful, cinematic deep house seamlessly combined with funky disco and dreamy electronica influenced by the likes of Bonobo, The xx, HVOB, Oscar and the Wolf, Oh Wonder, Sailor & I, Synapson, Aeroplane, Jan Blomqvist, Ame and Worakls. She is also a part of UNTIL DAWN, a progressive tech house duo that has recently made its live debut on the stages of Tomorrowland 2017 and Cafe D’Anvers in Belgium to raving reviews.
A Juilliard bachelor and Berklee double-master graduate in classical violin, contemporary performance and music technology respectively, Olivia is passionate in the studio and no stranger to the stage. Her innovative electronic live set has been featured at major events such as Tedx Berklee Valencia, Tedx Fenway, World Business Forum Madrid, Palo Alto Music Fest Barcelona and Roktoberfest Singapore. Since her debut at the end of 2016, Olivia has already opened for many respected DJ names such as Yokoo, Rampue and Jeremy Olander at Rewind Hong Kong as well as for international superstar Jonas Blue. This year she has headlined at high-profile events in Hong Kong for Daybreaker, Volar, Zuma, W Hong Kong, Armani/Prive, Lane Crawford, Landmark, Pacific Place, Max Mara, M.A.C. and has recently been featured at a Virgin Australia event hosted by Sir Richard Branson.
Olivia plays comfortably within an incredible range of styles from classical, jazz and rock to bluegrass, arabic, deep house and techno. Highly demanded for her technical versatility on the violin and her sultry vocals, She is providing vocal topline for French underground producer TIME and has recorded strings for EDM giant Mako, Jordanian violinist Yarub Smarait, bluegrass fiddler Casey Driessen, Ibiza DJ/producer Nacho Marco, psytrap duo Zebbler Encanti Experience, Spanish indie band Lost Tapes and Latin Grammy award-winning producer Javier Limón.
Recent projects include a nu disco remix for Universal Hong Kong artist AGA’s hit single, “3AM”, and recording strings for techno producer Eagles & Butterflies’ remix of ‘Phases’ by The Howling. They are currently working on her debut single, “Lions”, with an anticipated 2018 release. Olivia will also be producing remixes for Chinese concert pianist Chen Jie’s upcoming album, an indie electronic album with Belgian artist Alma Auer and a techno/tech house EP with TIME through Universal Paris. She has also just released a deep house EP with former Berklee classmate Ian Cahill entitled “Everything Will Change”. The songs that she has written for Spanish pop star Julio Rizzi and Taiwan diva Elva Hsiao through Peer Music Spain will be released this October.
Following her newly appointed role as the official music curator for W Hong Kong and a successful European tour with UNTIL DAWN, Olivia looks forward to more international festival bookings including Babylon Music Festival in Australia for February 2018. With her graceful charm, diverse background and a fluency in five languages, Olivia brings a fresh, infectious energy that is felt by audiences worldwide. She currently plays an NS Design electric violin, generously sponsored by Tom Lee Hong Kong.
